Lynda – SUPPORT in Plain Sight
Lynda’s role has changed drastically since she first started working at Shepherds of Good Hope’s shelter twenty years ago.
“What evolved is now I’m in a supportive housing program,” says Lynda. “I not only support the people I’m working with, but I also help create community.”
Her skills and natural ability to connect with the people she serves are the perfect fit for her work at Richcraft Hope Residence, one of six supportive housing residences operated by Shepherds of Good Hope.
There are 320 people living in Shepherds supportive housing, including 42 men and women where Lynda has been working since spring 2021 when Richcraft Hope Residence opened.
“They go from being in survival mode,” says Lynda about the residents in her care, “to being able to sit back, relax, and enjoy a moment, a little peace, where they’re not having to find shelter, they’re not having to find their food, they’re not having to find where they’re going to sleep that night, or worry about themselves or their safety.”
Lynda remembers when Shepherds of Good Hope was what most people still believe it is today: a shelter and a soup kitchen.
Today, she is proud to be on the front line of creating meaningful change in the lives of her residents.
“We take folks in who have addiction issues, who have mental health issues, who have both, and we support them and work with them to get them off the streets, where their quality of life can be raised up and where they can start making better decisions.”
