Shepherds of Good Hope celebrates 35th anniversary with new brand and barbecue bash

OTTAWA – June 20, 2018 – For 35 years, Shepherds of Good Hope has been helping our community’s homeless and vulnerably housed find their way to hope. To commemorate this important anniversary, Shepherds of Good Hope will be holding a celebratory BBQ and event on June 26, 2018 from 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM. The event will feature former-client-turned-scholar Jesse Thistle, who will share his inspiring story of with audience members. Present at the event will be Councillor Mathieu Fleury, Mayor Jim Watson, MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers, MP Mona Fortier, as well as Shepherds of Good Hope staff, volunteers, and over 400 shelter and housing clients.

Since 1983, Shepherds of Good Hope has been making hope possible for so many of Ottawa’s less fortunate. From its humble beginnings as a soup kitchen in the basement of St. Brigid’s Church, Shepherds of Good Hope is now a leader in harm-reduction, shelter services and supportive housing, with eight locations across Ottawa.
In addition to celebrating the 35th anniversary, Shepherds of Good Hope will also be unveiling a new brand, including logo, website and donor platform. The rebrand was made possible through the generous donation of in-kind services provided by McMillan and N-VisionIT Interactive. Leaders in the business community, the combined value of the donated services from these two organizations is over $200,000.

Thanks to their incredible generosity, Shepherds of Good Hope will join other leading charities in having a modern brand and digital presence. An upgraded website will create new opportunities to provide easier access to information and increase Shepherds of Good Hope’s ability to help those in need.

Interviews with Jesse Thistle, Deirdre Freiheit and others will be available between 1:30 PM – 2 PM, as well as opportunities for interviews with attending dignitaries. Cake cutting ceremony/brand reveal will take place at 2 PM and Jesse Thistle will speak at 2:30 PM.

  • Shepherds of Good Hope was founded in 1983 when a priest of St. Brigid’s Catholic Church asked for volunteers to help serve meals to the homeless in the area. An emergency shelter was soon established, and Shepherds of Good Hope was formed.
