This Thanksgiving, you can give someone the safety of home and the support to begin again.
Home is more than a place to sleep. It is somewhere you can feel safe, cared for and able to think about tomorrow.
That is what supportive housing has made possible for Deb.
Today, Deb has a home at Richcraft Hope Centre, one of Shepherds of Good Hope’s supportive housing residences. She has a room of her own, regular meals and support as she plans for what comes next.
Your gift can help make that same safety and stability possible for another neighbour experiencing homelessness.
Give by October 31 and your donation will be matched, dollar for dollar, by Keller Engineering, up to a total of $10,000.
ONE GIFT. TWICE THE DIFFERENCE.
Donate by October 31 to have your gift doubled.
Deb’s story: finding safety in supportive housing
Deb has spent much of her life caring for others. She raised her two children and built her own cleaning business through hard work and word of mouth.
After a relationship ended, Deb suddenly found herself without a home. She gathered her belongings and began living in her car. One night became a week. Weeks became months. Months became years.
When her car needed major repairs, Deb knew she could not continue on her own. She reached out for help and came to Shepherds of Good Hope, where she stayed in the emergency shelter for three years.
Then, Deb’s journey home took an important step forward: she moved into supportive housing at Richcraft Hope Centre.
She remembers touring the residence for the first time. Everything felt clean, peaceful and quiet.
“You do not realize how exhausted you are until the stress is removed.”
Supportive housing gave Deb more than a room. It gave her a safe place to rest, care she could rely on and the stability to begin looking ahead.
“You can start over again.”
Today, Deb is looking toward the next step in her journey: moving into an apartment in the community. She hopes to write a book and have it published.
When she is ready to move, Deb wants someone else to have the opportunity to move into supportive housing and experience the same safety and stability she has found.
