Ontario Housing Minister Paul Calandra and Mayor Mark Sutcliffe Celebrate Funding for Cornerstone Housing for Women, The Ottawa Mission, and Shepherds of Good Hope.

On Wednesday, May 22, Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, joined Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, and MPP for Glengarry-Prescott- Russell, Stéphane Sarazin came to Shepherds of Good Hope’s active construction site at 216 Murray St.

 

They were joined by Shepherds CEO, Stephen Bartolo as well as Peter Tilley, CEO, Ottawa Mission and Kate Jackson, Interim Executive Director, Cornerstone Housing for Women.

With Shepherds of Good Hope’s community kitchen and the Taggart Parke’s Family Community Hub in the background, the leaders gathered to celebrate funding made possible by the City of Ottawa and the province to help construct three new supportive housing residences in Ottawa.

Located at 216 Murray St, and with an opening date set for spring 2025, Stephen Bartolo spoke about the importance of the community coming together to end chronic homelessness together.

“Between the three organizations here today, we are adding over 100 new supportive housing spaces,” says Mr. Bartolo. “That is 100 more steps toward our goal of ending chronic homelessness.”

Peter Tilley spoke about the speed at which they were able to build eight units on Florence Street for those experiencing homelessness.

Kate Jackson shared how Cornerstone’s new building at 44 Eccles Street is already moving people in to their 46-unit residence.

Thanks to Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, and City Councillor Stephanie Plante, as well as city staff who work closely with all organizations, and who are equally committed to ending chronic homelessness in Ottawa.
